Fire Plan

Getting ready for a bush fire is easier than you think. By taking 20 minutes with your family to discuss what you’ll do during a fire, you could save their lives, as well as your home.

Follow these 4 simple steps to be ready for Bush Fire.

1. DISCUSS WHAT TO DO

What should you do? Leaving early or preparing to stay? One of the most important things to do before a bush fire is to decide what you’ll do if one should start. Are you prepared with the right equipment?

2. PREPARE YOUR HOME

There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire.

  • Trim trees and shrubs

  • Mow grass & remove cuttings

  • Remove wood piles, mulch, etc

  • Clear debris & leaves from gutters

  • Prepare a water source & hose

3. KNOW THE ALERTS

If there is a fire in your area you will find it's Alert Level on the NSW RFS website and in the ‘Fires Near Me’ app. You need to keep track of the Alert Level so you know what you should do.

4. KEEP INFORMATION

In a bush fire, it’s important that you stay up-to-date on conditions in your area. You could lose power and telecommunications.

Do not rely on just once source of information.
